In case you haven't noticed, I shared my list of links to the candidates Facebook groups and websites.

I am happy to say that almost all executive candidates - even the unopposed Mark Coffin - have websites that contain platforms, history, and sometimes even blogs / news. The only one missing out is Hugogorski.

Reports have flooded in, describing how I, as one reader eloquently said, "drastically understated the extent to which VAJ lost her shit" at Council. Several cited an instance when the chair was trying to maintain order and explained that a "point of information" wasn't your license to say whatever you wanted whenever you wanted, and VAJ snapped back something like "No! This is my society, I'm asking my question, YES, I'm going to." Not something you see a lot on CPAC, for example. Consensus is that Gault handled the second, fourth, and fifth outbursts with aplomb. Reports were mixed on the first, third, and the general mutterings.

Several readers have commented on that little performance, reporting that in a previous open space session she had talked about councillor apathy, not taking things personally, debates are for in Council only, and so on. All good advice. "Strong leaders", though, lead by example. Losing your shit, launching a direct attack, and then taking the festering anger home with you sets a bad example.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we all expected that to be Debogein.

Ian, do not judge a book by its cover.
I am only trying to do what is best for the Union. If nothing else, I am raising awareness about the DSU's issues with students that are outside of the DSU "clique".

On VAJ taking furry home with her: she's still festering on the subject today and was overheard saying she would have given Gault a black eye if she could have gotten away with it.
Violence? Really? I'm not too sure that's the first mode of retaliation I'd like executive members turning to. And frankly, deep seated resentment isn't very flattering.

We need more representation of Hants East.

Anonymouse, if there's something the DSU needs more than Foxy Boxing, I'd like to hear it.

Except neither are foxy....

VAJ was going on about it today with various DSU people.

Sounds like this is a bit of a festering sore point when it comes to VAJ... maybe some Valtrex could help...

Victoria Jones questioned Jen Bonds authority? Are you fucking kidding me?! Sounds like Vaj should've got the black eye.

Mike can you give us more info about this situation? Sounds dramatic.

Bunta Singh: and old fashioned four-wheeler assault isn't what I would say the DSU needs.

No joke about VAJ being lucky not to have been carried out on a stretcher.

Remember that episode of the Sopranos where Tony gets some redneck in a restaurant to take his hat off? (Boca, S1E09, for those playing along at home.) Having witnessed Jen at CKDU AGMs, she has the same ability to communicate without words that non-compliance will be very, very unpleasant for you.

VAJ - ignoring the homosexual vote since 2007.

Mo.: a significant portion of the homosexual community (specifically the female portion) are fans of the VAJ...less so if it's festering, I suppose.

that's a good point.

also "vagitarian"?

best name yet!

Re. last evening's Council meeting face-off between Jones and Gault: While the focus here has been on Jones' lingering frustration/anger with the situation, what I found interesting to observe was the difference in the way Gault and Larkin dealt with challenges to their recent actions.

From my perspective, Gault didn't deal with Jones' question all that well. She was rather evasive until asked questions that required more straightforward yes/no responses (though those questions may have been asked out of order). Her voice was quieter than usual and the way she was justifying herself came off more like she was making excuses.

It didn't help Tara that Sexton Engineer and this year's Lily Ju recipient, Scott Wetton, voluntarily told Council that he has opened the T-Room without going through the VPSL (one element of Jones' question had to do with the fact that Gault booked the Grawood for a Tuesday without going through Larkin). Scott's display of full disclosure without even being asked made Tara look that much more evasive to me.

In contrast to Gault, when Larkin was questioned about turnout at Friday's Student Appreciation Night, which was rather poor, she readily admitted without any probing that she could have done a better job with promotion and that she dropped the ball.

There is something to be said for how one deals when being held to account, especially when you're looking to be President.
Gregory Debogorski says:
[Mar 14th @ 02:09am]

Larkin didn't just drop the ball, she fumbled and gave the other team a touch down. The whole south side of the room, against the wall, was empty! There were probably four other tables I saw empty as well.
There was no apparent marketing done outside of the SUB. Science students, that I talked to, were completely unaware of what student appreciation night even is. Makes a student feel real appreciated.
Larking and accountability mix like water and tar.
She recently sent a mass email, explicitly using the management society I might add, to some 500+ students. If someone is to be president between those two ladies, I say vote for Gault.
Oh one more thing Larkin. You should really stop upsetting the president of the african student society.

I wouldn't just blame the failure of SAN on Larkin.

That executive seems to be lacking in the communication and because of it I see the failure of the event as all their fault. When Larkin asked for input, I would guess, was hard pressed to find it from the other people in those offices.

She understands it did not go down properly, but there's 4 other people in that office that chances are didn't do much to try and make it better!
effdemocracy says:
[Mar 14th @ 09:36am]

As I hear it, trying to do any 'non-Larkin-sanctioned' event stuff is grounds for getting your shit lost.
DSU Worker Monkey says:
[Mar 14th @ 08:50pm]

Greg: SAN has become Society Appreciation Night, so really, it would have been of 0 interest to 90% of the student population who have nothing to do with societies at all. You should have gone, and if you did, should have realized this.

Anonymous Coward: That IS exactly the problem, and one of the primary reasons that this event was not promoted. Without getting into it, event information was not distributed to societies until from what I hear, the night before and some the morning of SAN. This may have been in Larkin's portfolio (the success of the event), but the communication access was under another exec's portfolio and was never sent. Sure, more in-house communication could have been better, but being society appreciation night, that wouldn't really have been that effective.
